It's Been a Busy Week

Edit: now that it is no longer April Fools: it’s important that you understand this post came out on April Fool’s Day

Good morning--this may come as a surprise, but I have a big announcement. After our recent exchange, Matt Walsh reached out and we had a great conversation about cancel culture and the importance of free speech.

I've been offered a slot on the Daily Wire and I've decided to accept.

This may seem like a hard pivot to some, and in some ways it is. Obviously, I don’t see eye to eye with people like Walsh or Shapiro, and Michael Knowles especially has said some things I really disagree with. But I like to think we can get beyond those decisions and have a rational discourse discussion dialogue about the really important issues today: mainly cancel culture, the woke left, and whether it’s gone too far.

I’m really looking forward to creating content for the Daily Wire, and I hope you’ll join me. Click here for a promo code that will get you 25% off your first year’s subscription. You’ll get to see me and all your other favorite edgy political commentators for a very reasonable price, plus Steven Crowder will send you one of his mugs for free.

In other news, today is April 1st, 2023, and I have some actual, real announcements to make:

Matt Walsh Actually Did Reach Out

Well, not to me directly. But he did—and this is not a joke—do an entire segment about me on his little show. I guess he has this “daily cancellation” bit where he’ll cancel someone who made him mad and guess who made him the most mad last Wednesday?

Obviously I was thrilled and immediately made a reaction video, though I cannot in good conscience recommend you watch it. I decided to err on the side of fairness by not abridging Walsh’s weird little segment, which means this video has a LOT of Matt Walsh’s horrible, drippy voice compared to my sonorous, siren-like speech. Nonetheless, it is here if you’d like to watch it:

Walsh’s fans really do not know what to do with someone who thinks they’re hilarious and I’ve been having a pretty great week, honestly. If any other c-list YouTubers would like to cancel me, I’d welcome the diversion.(P.S: Debate me you coward)

Byron Donalds Article

Somewhere in the middle of the Trump indictment frenzy and the Mat Walsh saga, The New Republic published an article I wrote about Florida Representative Byron Donalds. This article did not exactly make waves, mostly since no one has cared about Byron Donalds since he became the Freedom Caucus’ left-field (right-field?) choice for Speaker back in January.

This isn’t one of those top-five-trending kinds of articles. This is an article that’s going to matter later, when Byron Donalds makes headlines again. And he will make headlines again. He’s a brilliant politician able to use progressive-sounding rhetoric to advance some of the most reactionary policies you can imagine. He’s one possible vision of the Republican party post-Trump, and he’s someone to watch.

You can read more about Donalds, and why I think he’s dangerous, at The New Republic if you would like to:

Would You Like To Learn More?

Last month I invited Substack readers and Twitter followers to send me questions, anonymously or not, which I then answered in an AMA article (that’s “Ask Me Anything” for those of you who have never spent time on Reddit). I enjoyed it, and people seemed to like it, and I’ve received a ton of other questions since then, so I’m going to do another AMA in a couple days. If you’d like to send a question, here’s a link to an anonymous question-asking app where you can type whatever weird thing you want. Let’s have some fun!

I hope you have an enjoyable April Fool’s day that involves the fun and good kind of silly pranks, and maybe not too many of them. EVERY day is “lie to people on the Internet day” now, which kind of takes all the punch out of the semi-holiday. My schedule is pretty full today—I need to prepare for my upcoming Daily Wire segment (Louder with Laura) and open a bank account for my $50 million advance, which I assure you had nothing to do with my totally ideological and moral decision to pivot far right.

Happy Fooling!
