Great piece in TNR. At some point, these tech bros fantasies will run up against the reality of actual human culture. Unfortunately, many people will get hurt before then.

The tech bros took over SF because they could afford it. The City has always been a financial, cosmopolitan hub of business interests with fantastic parks, festivals, theater, etc. I replied to you on Bluesky re: affordable housing there. It doesn’t exist. Before the pandemic when remote work happened the City had a problem with private buses bringing the workers that could afford to live there to Menlo Park, (FB) Mountain View (Google) Genentic , Apple, etc etc. The buses used public Bus Stops and caused traffic problems . Most of the employees of the companies wanted to live in the City even though they worked 50 miles south because San Fran is a great city, especially for rich, single folks that like going out. Something for everyone. So they could get on a bus with blazing Wi-Fi for free and get to work. Rent was much higher within walking distance of the tech workers bus pick up sites.

Anyway, keep up the great reporting on these topics. Your writing reminds me of Rebecca Solnit’s. It’s the real story behind the headlines and cursory explanations we get elsewhere. It’s very important! To me anyway. I also think the public should hear it. Keep Going!!

I am sad that details of Measure K didn't mesh with the direction of the piece, because it's HILARIOUS.

So, Great Highway between Lincoln and Sloat is right next to sand dunes. They already have to close it every weekend to move the dunes back onto the beach. This is expensive and pointless (the sand is going to win).

Furthermore, it was already closed for a year during the pandemic and somehow the millionaire owners of waterfront Outer Sunset homes survived. There's a major arterial like, twelve short blocks away.

Homeboy is gonna get recalled because two dozen rich people lost their waterfront commute, lol.

This is really interesting and it's what I have suspected for a long time.
